can my power supply handle an extra 4870 1gb
right now my system consist of a phenom II 940 overclocked to 3.6ghz and
1 4870 1 gb
with 4gb of ddr2 800 ram
my power supply is this one

No that power supply is very poor, you need high quality one. This is about the cheapest you can get:

eh ill consider it but would mine run the other card if not then i might as well jump the gun and upgrade the psu and use my current card until 5870 prices are down any suggestions for a powersupply that can handle my current system with 2 5870's

Even 1 4870 1GB is kind of pushing it. The power supply I listed would handle it, but 2 5870s require 4 6-pin PCIe connectors. This will get you there:
