Looks pretty good. I'm guessing you're getting combo deals?

1. MAKE SURE you get the Vista version with the FREE upgrade to win7.

2. Looks like you have a big budget so why not get a G11 Keyboard?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
or G15: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

3. If you don't have a G5/G9 get one of those too. I like the feel of the G5 over the G9 but the G9 has more DPI,etc.

4. WAIT for the ATI 5xxx cards if possible. Should be out soon.

5. Why no OCing?

An i7 920 with a Noctua cooler that isnt overclocked is a sad thing. Should be really easy to get a 1Ghz boost.

thinking maybe a p55 instead of x58

How about something like this P55 build? This build is set up for dual vid cards...I only added one to this build seeing how the DX11 cards are due out soon. The case has plenty of room, cooling/airflow.

thanks for the replies; i got a g5 already so i'm set on a mouse and i dont have the heart to spend 50+ on a keyboard haha.

I'm looking at different cases like the coolmaster mystique but it looks like that could be a bit of a tight squeeze; i'm looking for a case that isn't too gaudy or tricked out; something simple sleek and beautiful - so far coolmaster seems to be the better choice but i'm open to more suggestions (preferably sub $100 but could go as high as $130).

Also i might ditch the $70 cpu fan so save some cash - any ideas for replacements or should i bite the bullet?

thnkas again

Antec 900 or even the antec 300 illusion are good cases with great airflow.

CM 690 FTW

also corsair 750TX is alot better
bigger fan = quieter
and VERY GOOD quality =P

get a phenom II or a dual core cheaper and better performance
if you have the money i7
most games dont support all 4 cores

Core Contact Freezer.

$25 after MIR. Bracket for LGA1366: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
Note: Dosen't have the i5 brackets yet.

Review: http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm

Coolermaster Hyper 212, also on frosty top 10 list, $30 no extra bracket or MIR.

The phenomIIs do not give better performance and the top end phenomIIx4s that about match it in performance are not cheaper. Even the old intel core2 duos that might overclock faster than the i5 are more expensive than the i5.

^Nice find, last time I checked it was at $45 lol. It's a little lower performance than the CCF but that's pretty insignificant given the price and the need of not dealing with MIRs. The 212 also has the i5 bracket.

thanks guys that CM 690 might take the cake - but i've read some skeptics knowck it for its build quality. definitely gettin the coolmaster 120mm instead as well.

it seems to me that the only decision left on this system (except the whoel deal about waiting for dx 11 ) is the antec 900 or the coolmaster cm 690...

I'd take the Antec 900. Or if you can spend more, HAF 932.

:hello:

+1 for cm690

sure antec 900 is nice but
1. its loud
2. no special cable management
3. cant have up to 7 120mm
4.expensive

I have an antec 900 up on my desktop right behind my monitor.
Why do you call it loud?
Maybe if you ran the fans on high, but there is no need to set them above medium (and the big top fan on low).

I see two models of coolermaster 690. The NV 690 that has a top vent (i dont see a fan) and the RC 690 that doesnt even seem to have a top vent. If im looking at the right case, the 900 will have tons better and more flexible airflow paths. The NV is the same price as a 900 anyway.

The nine hundred does have a few holes that let you route most of the cables between the motherboard tray and the right side panel so you cant see them and they dont inhibit airflow.

Can someone put a link for the CM690 you are talking about. The cases I am looking at are not even close to as nice as a 900.

This it?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...
The pictures and description dont do it justice. The top and bottom fans are not shown or mentioned. In fact the pictures of the top dont show vents for top mounted fans.

Its the same price as an antec 300 illusion. Wish it looked better.

Also thats a 900Two you are looking at, not a 900. The 900 is cheaper and looks better.

The front top going back to the 200mm top fan is sloped so its not as boxy as most cases. Check the pictures at newegg.

thanks again for all the insight

i've been thinking: should i re-tool this to a radeon 4890 (or lower) build - thats much cheaper as of the moment and i'll be ready for ati's dx 11 cards that are coming out soon - i'd use this 4890 (or lower - to save some cash) as an intermediate card until the dx 11 ones come out

or i can go with the build i got now (a GTX 275 or 285 if i can find one) for a longer term, most likely picking up a second one further down the road for sli

thoughts?

^Why not just get a cheap $30-35 card and wait till the DX 11 cards are out and upgrade then?
