Hot to fdisk external hard drive

I just formatted my toshiba external hard drive. Previously it was showing the extension(H. Now after format, it shows (G. And every time I try to use it it asks me to format it.

Why use fdisk? Just go into disk management, select the external drive, right-click and select format.
