Also to run these cards what size power supply do i need and what power supply is recommended ...... I am also going to add a blue ray burner and get a new full atx case with 2/ 240mm case fans. I am also gunna upgrade to a 1tb Harddrive.... included links below .... Any recomendations would be nice as i am trying to get the best setup for least price .....

None of the programs you mention will benefit from SLI, and 3 cards would be a huge mistake.

SLI is only useful for gaming. You really want one good nVidia card, and in this case a GTX 285 is acceptable:

To power that you need a good PSU, but not terribly large.

i do alot of high end gaming and cs4 master collection can be configured to render files faster with video ram

the reason i am going tri sli is because the gts 250 series cards are still pretty decent cards

Ok then :) That's why we have the sticky at the top of the new build section.

Have a look at this performance guide for three-way SKI and two-way:

GTS 250 isn't listed there but given that they are re-badged 8800GTs, you would clearly do better with a pair of GTX 260s. As you know, many of those programs are going to need the best SINGLE GPU you can get, and will be held back by a GTS 250.

ok yeah thats what i was wondering .... like whats the best set of 3 cards i could get for the cheapest price.... so i probably go with 3 260gts and are there any recommended card manufactures .... and recommended power supply and manufacture .... i basically want a set of 3 cards that has majority if not the same technology that the 950 series or 850 series cards ....

Reply to tavernarijared

Well, the best 3-card config would be 4850s of course, but that's probably not a good option for you because NVidia drivers play better with professional 3D programs.

You are really just looking for the memory....

So you would end up paying 400 bucks for 3 of these GTS 250s (before rebates)

... and you would then have to pay extra for a PSU that will support them.

OR

You could pay less for two of these:

That would be faster in games and faster in your professional programs. And also you would spend less for a PSU:

well i have a 2gb right now .... so if i do upgrade i definately want to go 3 way sli ..... and 260 series or higher ... i was really wanting to know what the main differnece in the cards were before i made a purchase ... as far as the price ... i am gunna buy a psu one week ... then like one card the next one card the next over month period of time so i wouldnt need all the money up front .... so 3 260's what psu will go good with 3 of these cards ... how many watts ? whats a good brand ?

Reply to tavernarijared

i also def want a modular power supply and i believe for the high end cards you need dedicated rails right ?

Reply to tavernarijared

No you don't need separate rails, but you will need a lot of connectors :)

This Corsair would be ideal for 3-way GTX 260:

as far as my board ...it supports crossfire and sli .... the problem is that for a crossfire you need 2 3 way crossfire bridges and my board came with one sli and thats why i am going sli .....

Reply to tavernarijared

ok and 1000 watts will cover it ?

Reply to tavernarijared

Yep, that will be fine. Actual system wattage will be lower of course, but you need some margin for efficiency and such.... and you need those 6 PCI-E connectors.

Reply to Proximon

Oh, and buy the PSU first... I expect GTX 260s to drop in price soon.

Reply to Proximon

yeah i heard somewhere direct x 11 cards are coming out soon like with in the next year and when that happens all other cards will drop in price

Reply to tavernarijared

Excuse me for butting in here.

If I were to buy multiples of any component to be used in one system my preference would be to buy those items as one purchase with the hopes of getting all of them from the same batch.

Some will say it dosen't matter. To them it won't.

I'll butt out now.....

Reply to knotknut

no its just money wise i cant do that ... and what if one card is bad lol
