I've always had NVidia cards, and have always been restricted to 2 monitors. Quite a few years ago I had two 6800XT's in SLI, and after buying a new LCD, discovered you can't use more than one monitor while in SLI. Over a year later I moved up to the 8800 GTX, and have been using dual screens ever since.
And then I bought a 22" 1080 TV/monitor... bye bye CRT!
And then there was a sale on Samsung 2343 with 2048x1152 ... bye bye old 1680x1050 (gave it to my brother)
And then there was another sale on the Samsung 2343, so I picked up a second.
Now the 1080p is hooked up to my laptop, with the dual samsungs connected to my gaming rig. But I still have 3 monitors on my desk crammed into a semicircle to make them all fit. The only reason I bothered to get a 3rd monitor was because I got sucked into the eyefinity hype. I cannot imagine going back to a single monitor. Never gonna happen. So it makes sense to me that if 2 > 1, then 3 > 2. That's a mathematic absolute!
...
Am I the only crazy person who got sucked into the Eyefinity hype, or are there others here with the same plans/ambitions/hopes/dreams? It should be noted that I don't even have an HD 5000 card yet... I'm still waiting for the cards to get restocked at newegg.
Since NVidia hasn't said anything about a competing feature, I'm guessing if you want more than 2 monitors you need to get an ATI 5000 card. Also, is it still true that you can only use 1 monitor while in SLI?
I am currently using 4 monitors. (one for gaming) I have a 30" Dell 3008WFP, and 2 26" Viewsonic VP2650WBs, and a 23" Acer H233H.
I have a 4870x2 and a 4870.
Right now when I boot into my gaming partition using crossfire I can use the 2 monitors hooked up to the x2 card. but you can't use monitors hooked up to the 4870. When I boot into my applications parition without crossfire, I can use all 4.
I plan on using the Dell, and the 2 Viewsonics to game on together with a 5870x2. I can't wait to see the eyefinity version of the cards. I should be able to hook them all up to one card, enable Crossfire with my 2nd card to get the extra power, and still use all my monitors.
I'm waiting to see what thin bezel monitors come out from Samsung. I really want to make a gaming rig with 6 monitors. But I don't want to see thick bezels
