I'm having a problem with the "logical disk manager service"
with the Disk Manager. I'm running Win XP PRO with SP2 on
a HP Pavilion desktop with 1 Gb RAM, AMD 3000+ XP processor
that appears to be running okay otherwise.

When I try to run it ( MY COMPUTER | MANAGE | DISK MANAGER)
I get an error:

pop up: "Logical Disk Manager : the dependency service or
group failed to start"

and at the bottom of the window: "unable to connect to Logical
Disk Manager Service"

The message for the error under the system messages portion of
the computer manager is:

"DCOM got error "The dependency service or group failed to start.
" attempting to start the service dmadmin with arguments "/com"
in order to run the server: {4FB6BB00-3347-11D0-B40A-00AA005FF586}

and with it an additional message from the Service COntrol
Manager:

"The Logical Disk Manager Administrative Service service depends
on the Logical Disk Manager service which failed to start because
of the following error: The service cannot be started, either
because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices
associated with it."

I can't find anyinformation on what to do about the problem. I
get the same situation even in Safe Mode. I have a notebook with
the same OS and when I try the computer management on it, it
shoes the drives on the notebook, so I would expect to get the
drives on the desktop to show.

Any ideas on how to fix the problem???

Thanks,

Frank

First of all, I've tried all suggestions listed for this issue, and nothing works.
