More memory in utilised after formatting.

I have 75 GB Hard disk.I formatted the same once,but after formatting,my memory free space is only 11GB,whereas before formatting I had more than 45 GB.I physically checked all the files in differnet folders,but no folder is of this 30 GB capacity.How to over come the same.It's Lenova Laptop.

How did you format the drive (what command, what parameters)?

It is possible, although highly unlikely, that a low-level format found a large number of bad sectors and mapped them out. I really doubt that happened.

Normally, when you format a drive, it is completely empty afterwards. If you had a drive with 45GB free and 30GB used, after formatting I'd expect to see 75GB free and 0 used. You talk of checking files in different folders - I would not expect to see folders on a freshly formatted drive. How did those folders get there?
