Hi, i planning on building my new rig within the next few days but im very confused on what components to get. budget is around 2500$-3000$. I already have a monitor/mouse/keyboard. This is what i was planning on getting -

CPU - intel i7 950 3.06 GHz

Motherboard - Asus rampage II extreme X58

HDD - WD 1TB 32mb 7200rpm (should i get 10k rpm 320g raptor?)

Graphics card - ??? want something around performance of the GTX285/295, interesting in trying SLI set up, never done it before.

RAM - Kingston PC3 2000MHz CL9 - 6GB

PSU - CM Real Power Pro 850W (not sure how much power i need, please suggest)

Optical drive - suggest me one please

Sound card - not sure if i need, maybe Creative SB X-Fi Xtreme Audio PCI

Casing - not sure, maybe NZXT Tempest (need a case with space for my Sentry 2 - 5.25" fan controller)

This would cost me about $3300, looking to maybe cut some costs without performance. I rather pay 3300 than pay 3000 for less performance. Also can recommend any shop to buy from with best service/prices? i

* I want a comp that can easily play pc games for the next year or so on high - medium settings with good FPS and performance.

thats what i have in mind, please post with suggestions and comments. Thanks

******$3000 SGD is equal to around 2,109.12 USD OR 1,445.19 EUROS*********

It'll be like GTX295 with slightly less shaders BUT again you can't guarantee SLI performance.
Better as I said go with the lowest Vista capable card and upgrade Sep. 23rd, 2009 ~
Much much better.
Also if you're interested you might want to take a look at this (a thread of mine) : http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] encouraged

thanks for the quick reply, i pretty much am going to get what you suggested except replace the HDD with a Western D 1TB equivalent (because the samsung one isnt available at my store) + find a replacement cooler because the Scythe isnt availible either.

Yeah the heatsink and harddrives you choose won't make much of a difference if you aren't OC'ing or Going with a disk any faster than 7200rpm... WD Caviar black?

also, how is the NXZT tempest compared to the CM HAF 932? on newegg the NXZT reviews seem to be better.

yea the 1TB WD caviar black. I might OC my CPU but im hesitant because i've never OC'd before but from what i hear its quite easy nowadays.

ok so im going to buy my parts in an hour or so, any final suggestions? also i read that the GTX295 is equal to 2xGTX7275 SLI. Which one should i go for?

Reply to undadawg

The GTX275 SLI beat the GTX295 easily in ALL games.
Although you might want to go with a cheap GPU and wait for HD5870 which would retail at the same price and DESTROY GTX295 and come close to GTX275 SLI.

if i got just a single GTX275 how would that fair in the graphic intensive games? also im not interested in going ATI, nvidia all the way :P!

Reply to undadawg

^WHY?!?!? The new ATI 5xxx cards will pwn the current high end nVidia cards.

Well, There's no reason to stay with nVidia when ATI offers you better options as the new HD5870 Is very strong and DX11 support means that its performance will be even better for DX11 optimized games.

ok well i've given holding off on a good gpu some thought and i think im just going to get the SLI 275 config because im not going to upgrade my comp for atleast another 6-8 months and i'm sure this will last me that long with the ability to pwn most of the new games that will come out.

how come on here theres no option to select the GTX275?

is the card SLI compatible?

How about getting a HD4850 or GTX260 now and HD5870 latter??
You can NEVER guarantee SLI Performance and ONE card ONE chip is a better solution.
Also you can do with a HD4670 or 9600 GSO operate the system for now and get the HD5870 for gaming I should be out late Sep. .

hi ok so i ended up getting a single gtx 285 and a V8 CM for my CPU, can any1 provide me advice on how to OC the i7 920? i have 0 experience.

Reply to undadawg

Wow, You asked for the help and got the PC in less than 3 hours
The V8 isn't that good for its price but it should do it.
OC'ing i7 is fairly easy (on paper, i never even had an i7 :( ) BUT you should be careful as i heard it voids its 2Ys warranty.

i could be :P but im busy installing drivers so im on my laptop, so far so good :P no fires started yet. might OC it next week or so depending if i learn enough about ocing and grow a pair to take the risk of voiding the warranty :P

Reply to undadawg

OK, So if the fireworks started don't forget to picture it :D

About voiding the warranty I think it'd be better to ask someone else so I don't want to give you wrong info.
How much has your PC ended for in total?
I Really hoped you wait for the HD5000 but if you've found a killer deal for the GTX285 you got a killer deal!!! :p

i got it for around 2900$ (singapore dollars) i got a pretty decent deal on the XFX GTX285 Black Edition Overclocked because the Comex 2009 fair is going on atm so alot of discounts here and there.

**that price is including Vista home premium 64bit + win7 upgrade, DVD drive, internal memory card reader

Looks great but isn't the HX1000 Super massive extreme over overkill??
Any way, Ah wait a minute, did the system POST from the first try or did you have to go through the check-list??
