External hard drive is not working

Hi, my external hard drive has stopped working. it does show up on safelt remove hardware and also can see in disk mangement but not bein able to see files on it or intialize itm when i click on intialize it says disk is written protected somthing. Can you please tell me how to fix this problem?

if its on a desktop pc connect it to the back of the pc (another port) and see the result

do some tests on the external hdd - hdtune or WD Data Lifeguard Diagnostic - its probably a faulty hdd now and your data has been corrupted

do you have a backup of your important data?
