my system:

amd 64 socket 754 3000+
gigabyte k8n-pro
2.5g
40g maxtor hdd
ati agp hd 3850

i powered it up and it froze after checking the memory, and the memory was ok. no response to delete or anything so i had to power it off then on three times before it would start. it did the same thing about a week ago.

any ideas? maybe my hdd is about to die? i was thinking about getting a ssd anyway, is sataII compatible with sata?

Try clearing the bios.
Test the memory with memtest86+.
Tell us about your power supply.
SATAII is compatible with SATA.
You should probably upgrade the entire system.

haha, ya id like to upgrade the whole system but its not in the budget rite now.

i dont think the memory is the problem because it gets checked and its ok, its whatever happens rite after the memory check thats the problem. i keep forgeting to look tho, im going to restart rite now and see what comes after the memory check.
