My laptop keyboard is typing letters instead of numbers

my laptop keyboard is typing numbers instead of letters and when I hit the FN and F5 key it does allow me to type letters again, but every time the cursor is in another window, it goes back to numbers? Any suggestions on why it is doing this? I have tried restoring to an earlier time but it is still doing it. Sometimes when I shutdown and bring it back up, it seems fine.

no, I checked that. It is not on.

Where the keyboard connects to the motherboard may have become lose try removing the keyboard reseat the cable and try again.
