I bought this HP Pavilion a810n about 4 years ago, and it doesn't appear to have a wireless card. Or else I can't find it, but I did a "test", and it didn't find one. So can I add one?

No, the system didn't come with a wireless adapter. Yes, just need pick up a standard PCI or USB adapter. I prefer using USB on desktops because the USB cables acts like a big antenna. You can move the adapter around much easier.
