Computer freezes startup windows xp

My computer freezes when my background appears and my desktop icons are loading. I can see the mouse arrow move, when I move the mouse for the first few seconds. But when icons load, computer freezes. Everything works fine in safe mode. In safe mode, I ran virus scan, all okay. Tried F8 and go to last good configuration AND tried to reset configuration to a specific date, still have the same problem. Any ideas?

Safe mode with networking. Download a memory test Utility. Also run chkdsk /r on your hard drive.

You could also try startup with only one stick of RAM, to test memory.
