I got a old pc from a friend, It's an acer pc (sorry if that don't belong into homebuilt...) celeron d 2.66ghz. I added some ram and exchanged a drive and Gpu so that the system was fast enough for my mother and installed win 7 on it. Everything worked great!
Yesterday I wanted to exchange some ram (different frequencys) and after doing so the pc would not boot anymore.
I have to tell you that when exchanging the ram i didn't turn off the elecrticity, so that might be the problem.
If i press the power button the only thing that happens is that the fans are turning 100% , I can't even reach the bios so I guess the motherboard is dead.
I have tried any possible ram combinations (3 sticks of ram each one single into each slot) but it didn't help. I also checked all the cables, and another gpu no change.
Could I do anything else? maybe take off the motherboard battery would that help? The work with this acer pc (crappy finished pc's suck, screws everywhere...) wasn't pleasant so I would love to see it work again.
Ok guys I solved the problem thanks to a sticky (which I had already readen before posting but obviously not as concentrated as the second time)
It was the Gpu which was to much for the Psu. I had tried another Gpu so I thought that the Gpu couldn't be the problem... but I was wrong the problem was the Power the Gpu drew! running on onboard now.
The funny thing is that it worked for 2 days so I thought theres no problem... I knew that the 200 watt psu is weak but I thought either it takes the card or not....
I remember the last pc i didn't build myself *** ed up and a spark came out from the back of it, I didn't have that much pc knowledge then and it really freaked me out, luckiliy the store who sold me the psu was nice enough to replace it (I only had to pay for the new psu but not for the work)
