Upgraded cpu 3.0 to 3.4 On restart it powers down

Does your bios support the new CPU? Which CPUs did you use? 3.0GHz to 3.4GHz isnt all that specific.

Update BIOS?, raise CPU voltage?

Computer only stays on for about 10 secs not enough time to get into BIOS settings. The cpu has the same settings on both the 3.0ghz and the new 3.4ghz.
I put the old 3.0ghz cpu back in and the computer starts back up fine except that I had to reset the bios settings.
I just needed some help to figure out how to properly upgrade from the 3.0ghz cpu to a new 3.4ghz cpu. I thought you could just take out the old one, put in the new one, and turn the computer back on. But when I tried that, the computer will only stay on for about 10 secs before powering down for no apparent reason.
