I ordered a 5870 and then I found out I only have a 30Amp circuit in my room. I run an AMD Phenom II 955, MSI 790GX/G65 mobo, 4gb DDR3 1333 RAM, 2 7200RPM HDD's and a Multi DVD burner. Will I be able to run the 5870?SI

So how does that work? Does my PSU actually allow more amps to pass through the circuit or something? I was worried there for a second until I realized most people will be using either 2 20A or 1 30A circuit anyways.

Now that I think about it thats why there is a 10A and a 5A circuit on my PSU. Ahh I feel so relieved now. But please clarify that if possible! ^_^

You are fine.

Your room has 30 amps at 110 volts... (watts = volts x amps) = 3300watts available
Your PC has a 12v 30amp rail = 360watts

You have plenty of headroom there ~_^

Yep, technically you also have to throw in the AC to DC conversion as well, but as that's going at 80% or better these days it is negligible. Don't worry, we are a long way from overloading the circuit unless you already have alarge load on it.

Wait till the days when we need to install a 220V outlet for our computers. Maybe we can start running them off of natural gas or a hydrogen fuel cell.

Yeah Amps out of the wall is quite different than the current draw at 12VDC, no direct comparison. In fact, 30A from the wall is higher than normal, 10 or 15Amps is what you normally see unless it's in a kitchen or something like that. See Pailin's Response.

Hey, I appreciate you guys' helping me out. I was stressin' about this because I desperately want a sweet new video card .. haha. My 4850 is nice and all, but I want some mad FPS when Modern Warfare 2 hits the shelves and I have a feeling this current card may be lacking at my RES and high settings and .. well .. that's how we like it, right? ^_^

I think I'm going to fix up my profile a bit and start posting here, actually. I haven't been active on the interwebz' forums (lol) for quite a hot minute after all.

Plus this card should also be pretty effective in PS and my other demanding apps as well! And hell what's wrong with spending a lil bit on future-proofing myself for the next little while? Heh .. nothing of course!
