Forum CPU & Components : CPUs ********HELP HELP!!!***My Computer does some weird clicking sounds and then sudd

Word :    Username :

It started a really long time ago. I havent bought a new computer or anything... Just regular old one, its pretty good though and then one day my computer does some weird clicking sounds EVERYTIME I try to install something (example: Games, unraring/unpacking files etc) And when it does those sounds, it first freezes for like 2-3 seconds and then it restarts. Every comment is avaible.

Thanks

Your hard drive is failing.

You will need to back up what you can and get a new one.

/agreed - You need a new Hard Drive. Please back up everything you have now, before it's irretrievably lost.

Hard drive is probably on the way out; very soon, you will have catestrophic HD failure. Back up anything important NOW.

Unless it's the PSU making that noise... then it's even more serious. Probably the HDD.

I dunno, I'd rather replace a PSU over all of my data exploding any day of the year ;)

But yeah, it could be a fan clicking, but in that case it should get louder during load, not during disk access. While caps will also click when they fail, things tend to not work after that ;) lol.

I have a Caviar Blue 320GB (AAKS) that clicked like a Geiger counter when I first got it, then stopped clicking and running fine ever since. Well, it was more of a creak as it warmed up.

Fans only if its the CPU fan would it cause a restart.

The CD drive also wouldn't cause a restart. It just goes bad and thats that.

BTW what was the original HDD brand, the one that was going out?
