Isn't there a possibility of losing data? I mean if I try it nevertheless will it be 100% harmless for the system? Because I have 4gb ram, if I have something equivalent to 4.5 because of the different timings, that doesnt bother me obviously. But if I get something equivalent to 2gb then I wont use it.But can I try it?I cant afford any damage to this pc, it will take days to put the things back on to it.
What is written on your sticks? If you see nothing, try putting only one RAM brand in the MoBo and use a software like Everest to see what is the RAM's exact name.

The data is located on the Hard Disk and will not be damaged if the PC won't boot due to RAM problem. The RAM amount is not depended on the RAM timings. If you will put 2x2GB + 2x1GB you will always have 6GB of RAM, not 2GB or 4.5GB .
