Looking for motherboard recommendations. Low price matters. Overclocking does not. Should support at least Core 2 Duo (as fast as possible) and 8gb ram or more. More than one PCI slot would be nice, but not required. Also require a video slot, unless there's one with decent on-board graphics (which I understand are generally not that great.)

This will be for a student PC for artwork, including 3D work in Maya.

Is it generally better to go with a faster dual core CPU than a slower quad core? I would guess the faster dual core would give better overall system performance since most software doesn't support multi-core. Am I wrong?
