I have a 500gb hard drive, only 300.1gb is visable by system. can this be rectified if i upgrade bios. the bios is v1.0 26/4/2002

are you sure the hard drive does not have 2 partitions,,,,click on computer tab in the start menu, and see if there are 2 partitions...

having the latest bios is something i allways do,,,but i sort of doubt it will see the entire drive, its worth a try.

might try re-installing the operating system....when it comes to the point where you can erase all your partitions..see if their are multiple and delete all partitions,,,see if that brings you up to 500gb
