Wireless connection does not show up on network connections

Hello,
My computer was previously connected to the internet with AOL. im trying to enable my wireless internet.. and i have no clue where to begin. PLEASEE HELP!
i have a gateway mx6450 laptop

Is wireless enabled in the router. Is SSID broadcast enabled in the router. Is the router within range.

Best place to start is to read the literature which came with the router -- or download the manual from the maker's website.
