HD 5870 over heating

Just snagged a Saphire HD 5870 but it starts to flash wildly all over the screen after 30 seconds of hard 3D rendering. Catalyst center says GPU is at only 42 degrees and the fan is on slow. I suspect the vents on the front, which are partially blocked by my case, are not allowing proper cooling the voltage regulators. Is anyone else seeing this?

Did you clean the drivers from the computer before you installed the ones for this card?

A temperature of 42C is far from overheating. Your problem is likely either a crappy/underpowered psu or driver related.

According to Anand's, those 'vents' are sealed off and don't affect the cooling of the chip (if anything would be the memory);
