I purchased an Xclio Stablepower 500 Watt PSU about 1 and a half years ago for a pc I was building. (Core 2 Duo E6750 OC'd to 3.2GHz, 4GB DDR2-800 RAM, Nvidia 8800GT) and it has been running fine. However, I recently purchased an ATI Radeon HD 4890 Video card and with it installed, my computer shuts down when gaming. I know it's not a heat issue because my CPU doesn't get above 50c and the 4890 about 75c. When I re install my 8800gt, my system is fine and I can game uninterrupted. ATI recommends a minimum 500w PSU. Unfortunately they don't say how much amperage it requires on the +12v rail. Since my PSU has 2x +12v rails at 18 amps each, it should be enough, but for some reason my PSU is shutting down. I only have 2 fans, 1 Harddrive, and a dvd drive in addition to my main components. Surely my PSU should be able to handle it. What should I do?

your 8800gt is bout where the 9800gt is

now to get card only amp draw watts/12=card amp draw

227 watts(4890)/12= 19amps that a 4890 draws at maximum

but while gaming it will be peak draw

150/12=12.5 amps

So not enough Amps on th +12v rail? Xclio doesn't specify whether the PCIe connections are on they're own rail or not. Even if they were, it's only 18 amps.

I have an OCZ ModXstream Pro 600w PSU coming. It's got 25amps on each of it's 2 12v rails. This should be sufficient, correct?

Well guys, I picked up the OCZ ModXSream Pro 600w PSU (50a on 2 12v rails, 135mm fan, PFC, modular, 3yr warranty) for $30 (!) after rebate! Runs my 4890 flawlessly and let's me OC my CPU to 3.4GHz. Awesome.
