PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Keyboard, Mouse, Speakers, Monitor, Optical Drive, OS (until DX11 picks up properly at least), PSU* (Seasonic S12-600w / SS-600HT)
*not sure if this will be suitable for the HD58xx series GPUs

PREFERRED WEBSITE(S) FOR PARTS: none really but the less different shops the better

PARTS PREFERENCES: Intel Core i5 w/ ASUS or Gigabyte MB preferably

OVERCLOCKING: Yes

SLI OR CROSSFIRE: Unlikely but a small chance a couple of years down the line

MONITOR RESOLUTION: 1920x1080

ADDITIONAL COMMENTS: Quieter the better but not essential, Good onboard audio would be a bonus.

So my C2d system is starting to show it's age a bit now so was thinking I might upgrade to an i5, as it seems like pretty good value for what you get out of it. I'm not particularly set on any individual bits as most combinations I've looked at seem to come in a little over budget so was hoping you guys could help me out, stuff I was looking at was probably a bit overkill really. Budget needs to take into consideration the potential cost of an HD5850 if it's possible, if not I could settle for a GTX260 or something, it's not essential as I don't game that much but I do like stuff to look good

The HD5800 series uses less power so a good 600W PSU will easily handle a single 5800.

You really are going to need to check again in a few weeks when you are ready to buy. The whole GPU situation will be different then.

DNDHATCHER, the problem I think I may have with my current PSU is the number of PCIe connectors and the number of pins on the connectors I have got. I know the SS-650HT isn't listed to run a 4890 according to ATI so I find it unlikely the older version would. The mother boards seems good though, about £100 over here (remember I'm in the UK so newegg isn't a great reference as prices and availibility are often different over here).

Why_Me, That seems a pretty good set of parts as it should come in under budget, particularly as I don't need the DVD drive as I can salvage the one I've got now and I should be able to knock £20 off Windows 7 as I've already got a copy of Vista so just need to order Windows 7, which atm is ~£65.
