Don't even bother with a SATA III Hard drive!

No hard drive even comes close to saturating the SATA II bandwidth of 3.0Gbps (300MBps), much less a SATA III bandwidth!

The best I've ever got is 150MBps reads with 2 1TB HDD in RAID 0, on SATA II. Thats half of what SATA II is rated at. (Actually, one-quarter per port.)

If you really want speed, get an Solid State Drive, but $$$.

You didn't mention your motherboard. Is it even SATA III?

But, I do agree with omnisome, Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB, which is what was in my RAID array.

If you are wanting to RAID then I suggest the slightly optimized version of the Spinpoint F3 and grab Spinpoint F3R(s)...

I beg to differ, when I upgraded from my WD Caviar Blue 150GB-SATA2 to my current Samsung HD103SJ - I noticed a large improvement in performance, all aspects.

I think what you observed was the difference between a 150gb drive, and a 1tb drive. Larger drives are denser, and the fastest part is where you will load the os and first apps.

2nd foscooter is also correct. Sata III HDD is a marketing tool - The only benifit is in Burst speed, Buy the SATA II HDD and get a "Pint", or two with the savings.
3rd another vote for the SATA II Samsung F3
The oem version is a little cheaper.

im not too worried about space as i already have a 500gb external hard drive for backups, as well as general files and stuff

delivery is unbelievable, its like frikking 5 quid! screw that! so yeah which one of those.

I checked on the website and the seagate one is 160mBs while the WD one is 126mBs

BUT i dont know the warranty of the seagate one. the WD one is 3 years :S

Don't sweat the somall performance difference, in real life might not see a six-pence difference. As to quallite Samsong F3 first, WD 2nd, Seagat 3rd (my opion).

If it was me, I'd spend the 8 quid and get the Samsong F3, one TB - worth it in the long haul even knowing moneys tight.

yeah the samsung spinpoint f3, that doesnt come with a sata cable does it? well which type of cable do i need. Sata ii (2) or sata iii (3)? please reply asap
