Upgrading from E6550

hey guys, i was just wondering if i should upgrade my e6550 to either e8400 or q9550.
i have my e6550 oc'd from 2.3 to 3.0 right now. my rams are not good enough so i was thinking about buying new rams when i get a new processor. but the thing is, i use my rig as mostly playing games. so i dont know whether i should go w/ higher clocked dual or quad. the other thing im kinda worried about is tht is it too late to get a dual core right now?
im going to oc either one if i get it.
also, can anyone recommend what rams should i buy? im looking for 2*2Gb(4GB).

my system
motherboard - 775 socket
ram - crucial ballistix 1g*2
vga - XFX 8800gt
cpu - e6550 oc'd at 3.0ghz

With a 3.0GHz E6550, you won't see any significant improvement with either if all you're doing is playing games. In multi-threaded applications and multitasking, the Q9550 is much faster.

However, both are overpriced online. If you live next to a Microcenter, get the Q9550 for an amazing $170. If you don't, see if you can get a Q6600 off ebay and overclock it (they go for ~$110 used $150 new) or a used quad core.

Otherwise, consider saving up for a new computer down the road in 2-3 years.

thnx for an apply. yea i would probably wait till nxt yr or something and just build a new system and sell my old system tht im using right now.
