I have an i7 3930k and im looking to start overclocking it. I'm pretty new to this although I'm not a computer noob. I was just looking for some advice as to what a decent overclock would look like. I do have a closed loop water cooling solution and a haf 922 case so cooling should not be to much of a problem. thanks in advanced....
If you are a Noob I recommend that you use the options for overclocking in the UEFI BIOS. Those settings have been tried and tested by the mobo OEM and are easy to use. They are also relatively safe.
Don't try to push too hard on that CPU, the Sandybridge E is getting a reputation that it is a hesitant OC'ing chip. No one want's to see you brick your CPU.
BTW, I achievied a 4.8 GHz OC with my 2500K with the UEFI settings, and was even acle to push it a little harder to 4.9 GHz with trial and error. I have backed it down because once I proved the point, as I see no reason to burn out the CPU.
