I found that 1600 and above res 1gig is not enough vram. You'll get slow ups and spits and sputters depending on the game and game settings. I owned 560's ( 1gig and 2gig ) and don't like them. I now use a 6950 2gig card and nothing slows it down to date. getting physx to work with ATI is sometimes a nightmare. I personally don't do it anymore.

How do we explain this review then? http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-6950-1gb-benchmark,3041-12.html

For a budget of $300 the best choice is 6970 and yes you can get them for exactly $300 on newegg.

If you want to spend lower than get a 6950 2gb. Don't get your hopes up about the unlock to 6970 unless you get the sapphire toxic 6950 2gb (I Have 3 of them and all unlocked to 6970).

If you do get 6950 2gb get the cheapest one. Custom coolers and stuff are useless because this card doesn't overclock too well anyway. In other words the reference cooler can handle any overclock you will put thats 24/7 safe.

Between 560ti and 6950 2gb its obvious the 6950 is far superior in every game today (except the ones that inherently favour Nvidia). And it has 2gb ram. Now people will tell you oh 1gb is enough for 1080P gaming. They can't think 1-2yrs ahead. Look where we stand today compared to the days of 256mb and 512mb graphic cards a few yrs ago. Games like Battlefield 3 already are vram whores...and newer games will be the same. Good graphics means cranking up detail and getting fps....you can't crank up detail without lots of Vram. The Nvidia 500 series is excellent today but it will suck in a few yrs...and most of us can't afford to get new cards every 1-2yrs. We use it for 3-4yrs.

My recommendation 6950 2gb...don't pay more than $230-$240 if you live in the US.

Another option..if you wanna spent around $280...get 2x 6870s (each btw is equal to a 560ti) they are as good as a GTX 580 when crossfired...and yes there's microstuttering for some people but it doesn't happen to everyone.

Hope that helps.

for ROLLIN above

I assume what you posted are charts. the reviewer will run automated benchmarks and write down the average of maybe three passes. the reviewer will also NOT know if and when or why the game spit and sputters because he's NOT sitting in front of the machine playing. I've been down this road before. I'll never buy a card with 1gig or memory or less for a gaming machine above 1600 resolution.

Where can you find a 2gig 6950 for $240? Assuming you mean with mail ins?
