Hello,

How to determine storage type is SSD drive or HDD drive on windows, programatically by reading some bits of disk.

Right click on a disk>property>hardware and you see a list of disk. Search google to see if the model is a HDD or SSD.

"Windows 7 detects SSDs by using ATA8-ACS identify word 217: Nominal media rotation rate, with value 0001h as Non-rotating media like solid state devices. But not all SSDs adhere to the ATA8-ACS1 spec section 7.16.7.77, some may need firmware updates."

Hi,
I am also looking for the same, but i have got some informaton in the net in Window 8 go to Disk defragmenter and Optimiser you will be able to see the media type as SSD, win windows 7 go to disk defragment click on cnfigure schedule --> selecet disk, here SSD devices will not show.
