Hi im new here and i wanted to know how to overclock my amd athlon x2 260 from 3.2 to 3.8. I set the cpu frequency to 218 in bios. I then ran cpu speet test in windows and the speed was 3.58ghz. I raise it one more to 219 and when i try to boot windows 7 it says cpu overclock failure press f1 to enter setup and f2 to load default cpu... something i forgot. Is there something else i need to do? well any help would be appreciated thanks

Heya Str8,
What I think your doing is raising the base frequency, which is 200mhz by default, when you should be raising your multiplier. So your multiplier right now should be at x16 (200mhz*16=3200mhz=3.2Ghz). So what you want to do is keep the base freq at default (200mhz) and just raise your multiplier to x19 (3800mhz/200mhz=19). Also, make sure your temps do not get to high and you'd probably want an aftermarket cooler as well. And also check for stability. Hope this helps.

Well, looks like I'm wrong. Looked up your processor, which I should've done first, and it seems the multiplier is locked on the 260s. Raising the fsb seems to be the only way to OC the 260 as you were doing. I'd say just raise it by 5mhz every time until you get a stable OC. sorry

Lower your RAM speed down to 1333 MHz if you have 1600 MHz RAM then raise your FSB to 240 that will bring the RAM back up to 1600 MHz and your chip will be at 3.84 GHz...Make sure to keep your NB and HT between 2000-2400 MHz...The Multiplier is locked on that chip so you will have to use this method to OC..Now, remember this the FSB is essentially the volume button of the entire system...BTW..you will want to bump up your chips voltage to around 1.42-1.45v

A big FYI ....System specifications would help out a lot when helping you OC
