Hi I have a GA-M52S-S3P MoBo with a X2 5000BE CPU. I want to upgrade my CPU for video editing. This is a AM2 board but it says that it will support AMD Phenom II X4 955 BlackEdition, Sok AM3 on the website:
http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/Motherboard/CPUSupport_Model.aspx?ProductID=2567#anchor_os

Doers anyone know if it would support an x4 620 or 630? I'd like to upgrade for as little cash as possible?

Or woul I be better just paying for the AMD Phenom II X4 955 BlackEdition?

Any help much appreciated!

Thanks,

Scibs

Actually when looking again it don't seem to support any AM3 CPU's... guess ill have to get a new MoBo too... don;t want to buy new DDR3 ram though...

you dont need to get new ram if you get an am2+ socket mobo.

there are plenty still being made, and will allow you to upgrade to an am3 CPU without needing to get new RAM. i did exactly that. i jsut dont see any benefit to DDR3 ram right now.

Looks like the best you can do is a 9750 with that motherboard. If you were looking for a cheap and decent new board I would probably go with something like this

ASRock A780GXE $64.99

It supports up to a 955, with a BIOS update. You could use your current chip with it for now and overclock it while you're saving up money for a 955, or you could get this board and go with a cheaper x4 620 or something
