Hey guys, I'm planing on buying a PC soon, and I'm trying to figure out what would be the best choice for GPU.

I'm thinking between 2 4890s in CrossFire
or
2 GTX 260 216core in SLI
or
just 1 5870.

Also What power supply would you recommend to support this.
Thanks.

Get 1 5870 now, then another when the price drops by early 2010.

With a single 5870, you can already play Crysis maxed out (VH settings) at 1680x1050 or below, and nearly max (VH settings, lowered AA) at 1920x1080

For what games and with what other hardware?

What games do you play, what resolution? Hard to give a good (edit: oops) answer without knowing that. All are potent options, swap the GTX 260's and the 5870 and you would have their general performance ranking.

Anyway, if your gaming needs require that level of performance, the single 5870 (or even 5850) gets my vote. Does amazing in today's games, has DX11 for furture games. Add a second...oh my!

^ You just had to beat me didn't you? Stinks being wordy. ;)

I am only wordy when I have something to work with, like system specs. Otherwise it wastes time that could be used for trolling helping in other parts of the forum.

:) Yeah, I almost posted just that first sentence myself...just can't help it sometimes. Good point on hardware...given the GPU selection, I'd be surprised if it's not a new i7/i5 build.

Thx for replies.

I'm going for 955BE build.
Around 1100$
The games I'm playing are mostly Steam games, and Aion.
I really want to play Crysis, and Crysis Warhead, I just never had powerful enough system to run them.
I like First Person Shooters, MMO games, and Like Empire Total War.

I was thinking of getting the 5870 and then maybe couple months later getting a 2nd one and CrossFireing them.

Thanks.

Steam games you won't need such graphics power, but Crysis, Warhead, and Stalker:CS will utilize all the GPU you can throw at them, especially at high res and/or AA.

If you do consider crossfire 5870's, grab a hefty enough power supply (like the Corsair 850TX) now.
