I searched the forums and could not find my specific example. I have a gigabit router (DIR-655) with a USB port. I just plugged in a brand new Western Digital Passport Elite USB drive (500 GB). Nothing is happening. I was expecting a window to pop-up and say "you have a new drive!". The Windows Knowledge Base talks about mapping a network drive with the wizard. I don't know what to map to...please help? thanks

As per the DIR-655s instruction book, as well as the big sticker that comes on it, that USB port is not for network drives.

If you're looking for a cheap solution ( and have a spare port on the router) there are some low price CAT5 -USB file hub adapters you can get.

Perhaps your comments are directed towards an older model, but thank you.

I am not sure how I did it, but somehow the DIR-655 showed up as a drive. There is an application on the router which is designed to allow users to connect a drive to the USB port.
