Hello everyone,
I currently have a dell xps 420 and i want to upgrade my config to a better one.
Here is my config (i already made some changes)
Case: Dell xps 420
Mobo: Dell custom BTX motherboard
CPU: intel core 2 duo e6850
RAM : 3gigs pc5400
GPU: BFG Gefore GTX 280
HDD: Western Digital Caviar 500Gb
PSU: Enermax Liberty green 620W moddular
I was thinking about what i really wanted to upgrade and basically i would like to be able to o/c my current cpu to 4ghz on air if its possible. My computer would be much faster and my GPU wouldnt be bottlenecked anymore. Also, i would get a way better aiflow that in this dell case which i already added fans to. So i would need a new mobo, a new case, new ram and a cpu cooler.
Here is what i was looking at to buy:
Mobo: ASUS P5Q pro
RAM: 4gigs OCZ Reaper HPC
CPU cooler : Noctua u12p lga775
Case: Antec 900
These parts are the max i can afford. SO if you can find something ess expensive, it would be sweet =D
PS: i am mainly a gamer and i want to get better fps with this cpu overclock
good choices, but the cpu cooler not so much. whats your total budget anyways? not thought about full upgrade keeping the video card, hard drive?
get core contact freezer for cpu cooler..the noctua costs 80 bucks and gets beaten by a 25 dollar product after rebate, shame. You should have done more research..
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product
http://www.frostytech.com/top5heatsinks.cfm
look at my signature..i got 3.2ghz overclock easily with e6400
you can get 4ghz on your e6850 easily with CCF
read some articles on overclocking and temperatures if you dont have the knowledge already.
which kind of OCZ Reaper HPC ? and your monitor resolution?
also post in a better format
http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/ [...] ild-advice
i am canadian its kinda hard to tell my budget well in can$, my budget would be of 500, but if i can keep it like 350 with the cpu u sugested me, it would be better
.
I dont want to upgrade my grafic card for now im fine with it and my cpu o/c woukd give me a lil boost on my performances also =D. Same for the hard drive and everything else i do beleive i only need to chane my cpu cooler, my mobo, my case and my ram to get a good computer.
For the cpu cooler i guess i will go with the sunbeam if i can save and get better temps.
For the ocz reaper, i was thinking about 4gigz pc8500.
I have a dell 2208WFP with a resulution of 1690-1050 (its a 22 inch)
PS: i wont buy out of newegg, it doesnt matter if u check out there, but ill buy from somewhere its less expensive and have better service like ncix.com
haha nice im in canada too!! (props)
okay use ncix to PRICEMATCH directcanada, or just use directcanada.
directcanada is a great site with cheap prices.
also im glad you went with my cpu cooler, i use it too.
i believe it's this ram and its expensive..and dont forget in US dollars still
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product
antec 900
http://www.directcanada.com/produc [...] ture=ANTEC
core contact freezer
http://www.directcanada.com/produc [...] re=SUNBEAM
also you do know that newegg has a canadian version too its newegg.ca
make sure the mobo and ram is compitable, the lowest acceptable speed of ram for the mobo, check
ok well what ram do you recommend me? (i want 4gigs ddr2 that will work good with my cpu overclock)
for the antec 900 and cpu cooler its ok
I was wondering if u knew a good mobo that can do sli and good for cpu overclock at the same time for a low price? If not i will just stick with the p5q pro. I was thinkign about buying a new gtx 280 to make a sli sooner or later but i dont think its worth it anymore.
well for the RAM, i misread a little thought it was 2GB, so no need to change.
for the motherboard, okay..you do know that if you SLI your pcie lane becomes x8, x8 rather than x16 for a video card. which means this will limit your bandwidth for video cards..(not a good thing)..
the p5q pro is pretty good, but are you going to use this PC for a long time? because the i5 750 build is quite cheap right now..and maybe this could lead to a full upgrade (keeping hard drive and video card)?
maybe it would be a good idea.
But i wanna be able to get my cpu over 3.33ghz on air cooling cuz if not then my gtx 280 will still be bottlenecked.
I would be interested t osee what rig u could recommend me for a good low price.
Im going to look also for ideas but here is what i would like if i do make a almost-complete system change.
CPU: dual or quad, i like the idea of the i5, but i want to be able to get over 3.33ghz because like i said i dont want any bottleneck.
Ram: 4gb of some good and cheap ddr3 that will be good for o/c.
Mobo: well a mobo that support good o/c and maybe can do a 16x - 16x sli ? (if its not too expensive)
Case : definetly antec 900 xD
I would like to keep my hdd, my gpu, my psu (i changed it a month ago cuz the other one died), my dvd-burner.
i dont need anything else like monitor, keyboard... im fully equiped as a gamer there
Idk what to tell you for budget, im just going to say like 700-750
Ive seen good bundles on ncix xD
700-750 budget is totally DO-ABLE for i5 750 budget because you have hdd/psu/video card already. ill post some parts after.
you can overclock the i5 750 to 4.0ghz no problem with after market heatsink, there isnt much 1156 heatsinks yet tho, but the ones available now are decent

I don't think he has a choice for the mobo!
When you open your side window.. Is it at the right or the left??
Edit --->>
Here, This should make things clear
Medo
Psycho i will get a antec 900 case so it doesnt matter and i checked o/c on the i5 this thing is a beast ! 4ghz o/c under 1v xD
I want to change my cpu (intel i5)
Motherboard : i don know
RAM : i dont know
Cpu heatsink : the best one i guess for ai cooling
Will be 620 enermax modular PSU support a 4ghz o/c on a i5?
haha im back now, ill be posting i5 build shortly, your power supply should be good enough for the build with a single gtx 280, but if you upgrade in future you need to get better PSU.
and lol @ psycho_sykes he didnt read the entire post..
ye i know but for now im will stay with my single gtx 280
i just checked the gigabyte P55-UD4P and it look like the mobo i need idk if its wot u will suggest me but it support sli (im an nvidia guy
) and is good for gaming and o/c
like i said i dont know its just what i read maybe ull get me something less expensive
Hehe. Sorry ![]()
You didn't mention budget.
Sorry 700-750 CAD
I'll update as soon as possible.

i updated, read above. not finished yet.
CPU, RAM and Main-Board: i5 750 - GigaByte UD4P - G-Skill 4GB DDR3 2000MHz C9 * RAM higher Freq. than "OverShocks"`s combo
Case and Cooler: CM HAF 932 and Asetek LCLC *
Or Case: CM HAF 932
And Cooler 'A' : Corsair Hydro H50 *
'```Cooler 'B' : Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro
'```Cooler 'C' : Noctua NH-U12P SE2
* Same product, Re-branded.
That's what i came up with
. Tell me if you need to change anything or need anything else..

Just telling you psycho i will buy a antec 900
Are you sure that this coolermaster heatsink will be enought?
lol psycho_sykes i don't think he needs liquid cooling, also that RAM i suggested too, i mentioned i wasnt finished posting. the h50 doesnt fit 1156 ? cm haf 932 case is too expensive, and not needed, antec 900 is decent enough. i like that combo, it's the exact same things what i have. but a little cheaper
also to OP use ncix to pricematch directcanada like i said before, OR just use directcanada all together.

@ OverShocks Sorry. I didn't check for edits.
The HAF 932 has much better cooling.
What's "use ncix to pricematch directcanada" ??
For the liquid cooling. These are factory sealed products and will last long enough. Still i suggested another air-cooling option.
Medo
Okay overshock you gave me pretty intersting things
Aight for the mobo and cpu its ok
For the RAM i would take the fatest for sure.
But for the coolermaster heatsink, do u think it will be enought for o/c?
Without heatsink on direct canada + shipping, its about 651 right now (i live in quebec)
| mafiamonsta wrote : Okay overshock you gave me pretty intersting things

i think the heatsink will be good enough, because articles/reviews i read some people done overclocking using STOCK cooler on 4.0ghz i5 750.
i suggest getting what psycho suggested (the combo only) , then get the heatsink and case from directcanada or you can pricematch using NCIX.
A 2000MHz 9 - 9-9-9-24 RAM ('A') will most likely equal 1600MHz 8 - 8-8-8-21 RAM ('B') in performance (Sometimes 'B' > 'A') .
The suggested HSF would be enough for 3.2+GHz OC on an i5 750.
Edit --->>
There's a retention bracket for H50 (LGA1156) available for order via Corsair.

okay well i will go to sleep and ill check this tomorrow again
thanks for what you made up to now

to answer your question
NCIX has a feature that pricematches the item with another site (usually they will accept it, unless it is a sale item, typo..etc)

that's weird, because i remember theres free shippin for 300+ dollars
I edited the links.
Okay i finally bought this 499.99 bundle on ncix which include the i5, the p55-ud4p from gigabyte and the gskill 1600mhz ram. For the case, i finally bought a antec 300 cuz it was less cheaper and i bought 3 scythe 65.8cfm fans. When i receive the case i wanna drill holes for cable management, probably take out the hdd bay and put my hdd in the top 5.25 inch drive bay with the adaptor. I will also probably paint the inside of my case black it will look awesome =D. I didnt buy any cpu coolers cuz i will stick with this one till better ones comes on the market, or go a lil l8ter for a water cooling (thats why i wanna remove the hdd bay
)
Alright anyway guys thank you very much for ya help and i will try to post pics of my building.
