could i have a 2GB and a 4GB ram on the same motherboard?? i heard id have to use the same brand and capacity is this true??

Yeah you could have say 1g x2 and 2gx2 in dual channel. Not sure if you can have 2g and 4g chips in 2 dimm's.

im rebuilding hp notebook and it has 2 sdram ddr3 sockets,i have a 2GB and a 4GB wich i want to install

It'll work, but you'll lose dual channel, which probably won't matter that much, especially on a notebook.
