Hi, I'm looking to use back my 800W PSU for an i7 rig, with 2 GTX 295s... would 800W be enough? Its a Gigabyte Odin GT (SLI compatible). I looked at TOM's test rig when they tested quad SLI and tri-SLI with the GTX 295 and 285 and they only used an 850W coolermaster.

More about : 800watt

The minimum PSU that I would use is a Corsair TX850.

I'd personally wait until the new AMD 5xxx GPU's come out this week, before making any ~$1000 GPU purchases.

Yeah I wasn't going to buy them just yet, its just that I'm selling my old PC and I was thinking I could retain my PSU, but it seems I'm gonna have to get a 1000W if I want to get this setup...

Thx guys for the answers, I rly appreciate it

You don't need a 1kw PSU!! Wait until the AMD 5xxx GPU's come out and than you can make your decision. Most SLI/X-fire setups really could be run on a 650w PSU, but it all depends on all of the parts that you'd be running on the system.

See thats the problem, I can't really wait cauz i'd be selling my old PC this week and I have to decide whether to keep the 800W or sell it with the old rig. I'd be buying my new PC once USB 3.0 mobos comes out so I have time, but I want to make sure that if I do keep my old 800W it will be enough for any configs I want to use in the future (tri/quad SLI). If the 800W is not enough for the most taxing systems today then it shouldn't be enough for next gen. Each PCI-e slot only supports up to 300W and GPUs are already up to 289W (gtx285) so power needs shouldn't increase and will most likely stay the same...

Sell it with the new rig. Newegg has a Corsair 850TX for $100 after MIR, less whatever your psu adds to the price of your build.
