ADDITIONAL COMMENTS:
Looking for the most performance I can reasonably get, in a system that will be running several demanding applications simultaneously. (VJing requires screen capture, flash media encoder, resolume ave etc.)
I can reconsider the budget if it makes sense to spend a little more for large performance gains. Planning to run windows 7 on the machine.
Is it worth it for me to go for the i920 and get 12gb of ram? I will be running several demanding programs at once, and I do a lot of work with HD video and very large images in photoshop (large format print graphics, with hundreds of layers etc)
a i7 920 build will be more future proof than a i7 860 build because of the x58 motherboard. since your budget it 1000-1500 already theres no point with i7 860 build, i7 860 is just to save money for the 800-1000 builders
also do you really need 12gb ram? can you specific more in details what work you do? what kind of demanding programs?
