Hey guys, just curious with a question regarding Intel's Smart Response Technology (or, SSD caching I should say).

From my point of view, this looks like a very affordable option to get *near* SSD like performance from your standard HDD with Intel's new 311 20gb drive. Much cheaper than buying a large capacity SSD. But - does does SRT give much of a benefit for older SSD's of small capacity? I know the 311 was designed to work with SRT and it uses the much better SLC flash memory type, but I was just wondering if anyone uses SRT with some older SSD's? I'd be interested in seeing some tests if anyone has tried this yet.

In particular, I am considering getting an Intel X-25V 40gb to use with SRT from a friend, but I'm wondering if I will see much of a performance boost compared to say, the 311 (which I know would perform quite well).

Note this SSD would be paired through SRT with a Seagate Barracude 7200RPM:

so, I know SRT would boost the performance since the drive isn't anything like a velociraptor.

Anyways, thanks in advance and hopefully someone has an answer!

Took awhile but finally found this. It compares the 311 and the corsair F40 when used in SRT. Wish the had included a larger SSD also as the max size that can be used is 64 gigs.
