Do you already have the P4? I would really suggest something like an Athlon II 245 if you dont already have the P4. If its a socket 775 P4 you should be able to get a cheap board that supports it off newegg along with some DDR2 ram, get a Gxx board so you dont have to get a GPU too. If you dont already have the p4 its going to be harder to get.

Building around that old CPU is a big mistake since you can build a MUCH faster computer for just a few dollars more.

^+1. Let the P4 die. The X2 240 is leagues ahead of the P4/Pentium D.

The only good place for a 3.2GHz Pentium 4 is the garbage can.

If that's all, then ...

Intel Celeron 430 Conroe-L: $40
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819116039

ASUS P5KPL-CM LGA 775 Intel G31 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard: $55
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

CORSAIR 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) Desktop Memory: $34
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] -_-Product

SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 8X DVD+RW 16X DVD-ROM 48X CD-ROM 2MB Cache SATA DVD Burner: $28
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6827151187

Subtotal: $157.00 (excluding shipping)

ALL BRAND NEW HARDWARE!!

That leaves you $43.00 to play with :)

p.s. The Celeron 430 is plenty of power:
don't be deceived by the name, which was
re-branded for Conroe single-core CPUs
and later for a few dual-core CPUs too.

Search for "Celeron" at Newegg for a list:

Alright, so I was going to make her a dirty Pentium 4 system, but you guys talked me out of it to say the least. So I have a case, Power supply, and all the case mods for it. Now for the actual system, lolz... I want to keep this PC as cheap as I can but still get decent hardware. All this PC will most likely be used for is facebook, net surfing, and a few papers for college. As I said, my budget is around $200, buuut, if any of you can find some good ways to budget it less, props.

Any thoughts?
