Hey everybody,

I am thinking about building a simple server to hold all the media for my HTPC. I was wondering what I should be looking for. I know I don't need much CPU power etc. I plan on using Windows Home Server. What level of mobo, memory, PSU should I be looking at?
Thanks

2GB DDR2 800 + a cheap AMD CPU + a cheap AM2/AM3 motherboard. As for PSU, a quality 400W unit such as a Corsair 400CX will do fine. For HDDs, that depends on your needs.

Thanks for the quick reply Shadow.
This is literally the cheapest things Newegg has as far as AMD. There is a combo offer on the 140 Sargas with a gigabyte board very similar to the mobo for my HTPC with the sideport but it is around $20 more than what I have chosen below. $20 is really not that big of a deal to me but the combo only lasts till the end of the month and I am not sure I will purchase by then.

So here is what I have chosen.

AMD Sempron 140 Sargas 2.7GHz 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 45W Single-Core Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6819103698

Foxconn M61PMV AM2+/AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6813186155

SeaSonic SS-400ET 400W ATX12V V2.2 / EPS12V V2.91 80 PLUS Certified Active PFC Power Supply - OEM
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6817151061

Hard drives will more than likely be WD greens. Probably around 4 1 or 1.5 TB drives. I already have monitor, keyboard, DVD drive, etc. and plan to go headless.

I have not checked much into it yet but I believe should do a RAID array?

Thanks for the info and any other suggestions

...and by the way, I think my avatar wants to play with yours.
