My pc refuses t o recognise my usb mouse after installing xp pack3 on my pc

Hello,
I installed xp pro sp3 on a hp desktop 2.8ghz processor, 1gb ram system but while the installation was still on, there was power outage. when the power came back and i restarted the installation i notice that the usb mouse refuses to work again. i have tried to uninstalled it from add and remove programs but still yet, the usb mouse still refuses to work. What can i do?

Try updating the pointing device driver in device manager
