Can you install a mouse without a disc

Hello, the mouse on my comptor is not working properly,i have found another mouse from another computor we used to have but cannot find the disc to install it! can it be installed without a disc?

you should not need any disk to in stall a mouse on xp if it is usb just plug it in and wait for it to start working if it is a ps/2 (old round conector nomaly a greeny colour) the pc/ laptop will need a restart
