What Factors need to be changed when overclocking?

I have an AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE

What factors do I need to change when overclocking. I'm new to overclocking.

What other components do you have? What cooler? What temps are you getting at stock speed?

The spec for my machine are below:

AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE
4GB DDR3 RAM
Geforce 9600 GT
500W PSU
640GB Hard Drive


I haven't got the stock cooler for my processor, and i'm usually running at around 30-35 degrees.

What mobo? cooler?

The Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-970a-UD3.

And as the for cooler, I cannot remember the exact name. It was around £38 pounds though. It's an Air Cooling System. It's rather large too xD

I can tell you what change but is better that you know why change that.

On the guide you supplied me with, where it says "To begin, leave the CPU voltage on auto", does that mean the Vcore for the CPU?

Correct, in some BIOS is CPU Voltage while in other is CPU Vcore.

Okay, I think I understand it now. I'll give it a go at some point. Thanks for all of your help. Oh one last thing. Do the Memory settings need to be updated or can they be left as default?

Can be default, but if you want play with that do it after you get the CPU overclock stable
