Problem with external hard disk

sir,
i am having an external hard disk of gb, when i connected it to 2 a laptop with windows 7,a pop-up window appeared saying- click to solve the problems. i clicked on it n by mistake stopped it in middle. now the ext hd is not opening. its saying to format the drive in order to use it.
please help me, there is a lot of data in the hd, which i don't want to lose.

You can try recovering file off of it using recuva or other software, then format the drive and copy the recovered files back onto it again.

You can also try partition recovery software like Easeus Partition Manager.
