Help i have lost all my pics after installing windows

Hello,
i recently installed new windows xp and before it, i did place all my files into drive d,e and f to have them even after reinstalling windows. now i have all my music files and others but i have lost all the family pics of mine. They were really important to my father. I m sure there has to be a way to get them back.
oh, and i also tried RECUVA but it couldn't help.
so I really want some help from you all.. thanks..

Start at the beginning and state exactly what you did.
D,E,F Partitions on the hard drive ? Where were pics placed?
Did you repartition, format ?

well, I did it all carefully.. I have all the other contents but not only the PICS.
