Having trouble understanding the detailed process of CPU

I am fairly new to computers and I have a report for my class and it is on CPU's. So I am trying to find a detailed info what makes up a cpu and how they function. I have found several websites, but some of it just isn't clicking in my head how the process works. If anyone can direct me to a good website that could explain so that a newbie could understand please let me know

There's WAY too much info on the Internet that should explain everything you may want, just don't copy and paste/plagiarize and turn in something you don't understand. I hire people to work on computers, and we ask TOUGH questions of our applicants... You better know the answers!
