Quick formatting of a 160gb harddrive (external)

The default allocation size of 4KBytes is perfectly reasonable for general use. Larger allocation sizes save space in the file system metadata to track file extents and free space, but at the cost of more wasted space in each file.

In general, use larger allocation sizes for volumes that hold a few very large files (such as databases), and smaller allocation sizes for volumes that hold lots of smaller files.
