edit:
PC is intended for general use with moderate gaming on the side.

Everything else (sound card, dvd drive...) i have. I am currently waiting for the ati 5850 to come out, so a friend loaned me his spare vcard for the time being. Is this a decent build? Plz make changes/recommendations wherever you feel necessary.

You linked to the PSU twice instead of the ram.
Other than that it looks fine. Motherboard is a bit pricey for LGA1156. I'd probably go for a cheaper Gigabyte board myself.

Also a HD5850 seems a bit much for "moderate gaming on the side"

My bad: RAM

Well, it won't be the 5870, and I want to have DX11... so think of it as future proofing a bit...

My recommendation would be to drop down to the i5 750. For your uses, I don't see a reason to get the i7 860, even if you want to "future proof".

Why don't you just Google the benchmarks.

FYI, the HD5850 runs at 85% the speed of the HD5870 but I've seen it in USD for closer to 70% the price.

The HD5850 and i7-860 would run ANY game nicely.

I should add:
For gaming the combo of:

HD5870 and i5-750

is on average faster than:

HD5850 and i7-860

For CPU-specific programs the 860 can kick butt especially with 8 threads to the 750's 4, but gaming is about BALANCE. For a single card the CPU will be often overkill so it's better for gaming (with one card) to have a faster graphics card and slower CPU.

gaming's not my only concern... i'll be encoding stuff too
