Hi,

My friend wants a system based on: I wan to build a system for my friend based on the AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual Core. What Intel chip does this AMD correspond to? Or I might say "compete" with?

i dont know which one would win in benchmarks, but in specs, these two are almost identical.

Intel Pentium E6300 Wolfdale 2.8GHz 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor

AMD Athlon II X2 240 Regor 2.8GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM3 65W Dual-Core Processor

so i would say the pentium 6300 is about its competitor.

In a fight between those two chips the Intel is likely to win due to a more efficient architecture, so they can't really be compared clock for clock.

that is right, intel chips normally win even at lower clock speeds, therefore, maybe a e5400 or a e5200 those would probably be on an even playing field.

The X2 240 performs very similar to the E5200.

The E6300 wins 18 vs 14 on anands bench tool against a 250 athlon II (0.1ghz faster than a 240), so they are in fact pretty closely matched cpu's.

Note that the Athlon wins 14v13 if you remove the synthetics at the start....

What do you mean by removing the synthetics as the start?

The 5 Sysmark 2007 tests at the start are 'synthetic' ie not real application performance. Although based on a variety of windows tasks, it isn't a real application.

Not to flog a dead horse or anything but if you look at the 3d score on that link you might expect the intel to win all of the game fps benchmarks and not lose all of them.

Stuff like this is why conspiracy theories exist btw. The intel doesn't win any of the real gaming benchmarks yet wins in the synthetic 3d performance.......

The athlon 2 beats the e5200 in something like 23/31 benchmarks.
