I am buying an ATI 4870 from some guy at craigslist. The problem is that he is not even sure if it works. Without giving him any money he is letting me hold on to it for a couple of days to see if it works before I buy it. What kind of test should I run to see if this card has any problems?

What does checking its properties going to accomplish? Would it give you wrong clocks if it was damaged?

Definatly go with Furmark,
In GPUZ there is a sensors tab at the top which will give you another read out of temps etc to run as well as Furmarks own temp read out. Thats what i would use it for anyway, just a second set of figures to check against, belt and braces if you like just to be sure.

If it can survive Furmark it can survive anything;)
Also use GPU-Z to check its properties.
